Orientation field trip to Medická Záhrada Park

Recently, students from Year 3 and Year 4 enjoyed on an exciting excursion to the beautiful Medická Záhrada Park, located in the Old Town of Bratislava. This activity, organized within the framework of the Orientation Unit, offered a enriching experience that combined learning and fun in equal measure.

During the excursion, our students participated in an exciting Field Trip designed to test their orientation skills. The first game was “Guess the password,” in which students had to make decisions to solve a riddle while using their orientation and short memory skills. This challenge tested their ability to make strategic decisions while competing against another team.

Another activity was a game called “Guide me!,” which involved giving orientation instructions to a blindfolded teammate who relied on their peers’ directions to achieve the goal. This activity not only tested students’ orientation abilities but also underscored the importance of clear and effective communication in challenging situations.

Lastly, the students played a “Treasure Hunt” in a specific part of the park. In teams, students were given a map of the area to place four treasures. Then, within a 5-minute time limit, they had to find the treasures hidden by the other team and mark their locations on the map. The treasure hunt required students to reach agreements in a short time to achieve a collective goal: finding the most treasures in 5 minutes.

This focus on problem-solving and collaboration also aligned the experience with the Learning Profile Attributes of the PYP, such as being inquirers, thinkers, and communicators. Additionally, it fostered the development of the Approaches to Learning (ATL) of the PYP. Students practiced skills such as social skills, thinking skills, or communication skills.

This exciting excursion to Medická záhrada Park not only provided our students with a practical and enriching learning experience but also allowed them to cultivate fundamental skills for their personal and academic development. Through exciting challenges and collaborative activities, students not only strengthened their orientation and problem-solving skills but also demonstrated exceptional commitment to teamwork and effective communication.
