Behind the Scenes of Our Ski Trip

This year’s ski trip was one of those experiences that quietly stays with you long after the snow has melted. From my perspective as a teacher and a complete beginner on skis, it was challenging, exhausting, joyful, and incredibly rewarding all at once. Watching the students throw themselves into the snow, learning, falling, laughing, and improving day by day reminded me why experiences like this matter so much.

The trip itself was a real success. The students absolutely loved it—not only the skiing, but everything that came with living and learning in a winter environment. This year, we had more middle school students than high school students joining us, but the enthusiasm across all age groups was contagious. The joy on their faces made it clear how much this week meant to them, and it truly makes us hope that next year more high school students will take part in what we proudly call a “long Physical Education week.”

And it really earns that name. Every day was full physically demanding, mentally engaging, and rich in learning. Skiing is much harder than it looks. As a beginner, I quickly learned that it’s not just about going downhill; it’s about body control, balance, and being aware of every movement you make. Stability on snow and ice requires focus, coordination, and patience, especially if you want to improve or even attempt small tricks. Seeing the students go through that same process—pushing themselves, supporting each other, and celebrating progress—was incredibly motivating.

Beyond skiing, the fun didn’t stop on the slopes. Right behind our accommodation, the students enjoyed sliding down the hill on the snow, turning free time into pure laughter and unforgettable moments. Sometimes the simplest activities create the strongest memories, and those snowy afternoons were a perfect example of that.

One particularly special moment for the high school students was the night they cooked for themselves. Preparing burgers together, organizing the kitchen, and sharing responsibility turned into an experience full of laughter and stories anecdotes from that evening that they are sure to carry with them for years. It was a beautiful glimpse into their growing independence and teamwork, and one of those behind-the-scenes moments that truly defines a school trip.

Perhaps the most meaningful part of the week was sharing life with the students 24/7 in such a different learning environment. Outside the classroom, you see them grow in new ways facing challenges, helping one another, and building confidence. These are lessons that simply cannot be taught from a desk.

A heartfelt congratulations and thank-you go to all the organizers of the trip and to every teacher who participated. Your effort, patience, and dedication turned this demanding week into a safe, enriching, and unforgettable experience. What happens behind the scenes is what makes moments like these possible.

It was a week full of snow, learning, effort, and connection one that reminded us all that learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door, and sometimes, it begins on a snowy hill
