Maths Teacher in a Music Class, Supporting Learning Across Subjects
Today, I had the opportunity to supervise Year 7 students during their Music lesson, a slightly different environment for a Maths teacher, but an enjoyable and meaningful experience.
The focus of the lesson was project work. Students used the time to continue their research, with laptops available when needed. Those who had completed their research were encouraged to move on to the next stage, writing a plan for the scenes they intend to film for their project.
What stood out to me was how independently the students worked. Some were deeply engaged in research, while others collaborated thoughtfully on planning, discussing ideas and structuring their scenes. It was great to see creativity, organisation, and teamwork taking place, skills that are just as important in Maths as they are in Music.

Supervising outside my own subject area reminded me that learning is truly interconnected. Whether in Maths, Music, or any other subject, students are constantly developing critical thinking, communication, and creativity.
A small moment in the day, but a valuable one and another reminder that teaching is about supporting learning wherever it happens.
