πStepping into the Future: Year 2 Creatives Shine on “Bump Up” Transition Day!
Transitioning to a new key stage is a massive milestone in a young learnerβs academic journey. On May 29th, 2026 our campus was buzzing with extra excitement as we hosted our annual “Bump Up” Day. In Year 3 we warmly welcomed our rising Year 2 students into our wonderful world!
The purpose of this special day is to demystify the move to upper primary, build confidence, and give students a tangible, joyful taste of the adventures awaiting them next term. From the moment they stepped through the door, these young creators stepped up to the challenge with curiosity, expression, and bright smiles.
Here is a glimpse into how our future Year 3 students spent their action-packed day of discovery:
β±οΈ Time-Traveling Mathematics
Our visiting students dived into a hands-on session centered around the classic art of telling time. Stepping away from digital screens, the children participated in an energetic, old-fashioned clock guessing game. Using traditional analog clocks, they raced to decode where the hour and minute hands were pointing. It was a fantastic way to sharpen their mathematical thinking, spatial awareness, and problem-solving skills in a highly interactive format.
πΈπ° – Sound Explorers
During Slovak class they played a sorting game in which they sorted sounds into long vowels, short vowels, long consonants, short and ambivalent consonants. The students showed fantastic focus as they categorized each sound, working together to spot the patterns and master the linguistic building blocks that they will build upon next year.
π Creative Expression: The Secret Word Challenge
To round out the day, the children let their imaginations run wild in a vibrant, multi-sensory expression game. Each student received a “secret” word and was given total creative freedom over how to communicate it to their peers. The classroom transformed into a stage of pure imagination as children chose to:
-
Act it out or strike a dramatic pose π§
-
Draw it on the board π¨
-
Use it in a descriptive sentence π
-
Hunt for the item hidden somewhere in the classroom π
-
Make a funny or realistic sound π
The sheer variety of choices allowed every personality to shine, and the level of artistic flair displayed by the children was absolutely outstanding!
π Engagement, Joy, and Independence
The true highlight of the day wasn’t just the work producedβit was the phenomenal attitude of the children. Every single student was fully engaged, eager to participate, and thoroughly enjoyed exploring their future learning environment. They asked insightful questions, made new friends, and proved that they are more than ready for the exciting responsibilities of Year 3.
βοΈ Looking Ahead to the 2026/2027 School Year
As we approach the end of the current term, todayβs success leaves us incredibly eager for the future. We are already looking forward to welcoming this wonderful cohort back to schoolβfresh, rested, and ready to soarβafter their well-deserved summer break for the upcoming 2026/27 school year!
A huge thank you to our incredible teachers, assistants, and the Year 2 students themselves for making today an absolute triumph.
