Celebrating Korean New Year

On Friday, February 27th, our school community had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Korean New Year together with members of our Korean parent community. It was a vibrant and meaningful event that brought students, teachers, and families closer through culture, traditions, and shared experiences.

The celebration was thoughtfully prepared by the Korean parents, who introduced us to many aspects of their rich cultural heritage. They gave an engaging presentation about the traditions surrounding the Korean New Year, explaining the importance of family gatherings, respect for elders, and the customs that mark the beginning of a new year in Korean culture. It was a fascinating moment for many students who were learning about these traditions for the very first time.

Throughout the event, students were invited to participate in traditional Korean games and activities, which brought a lot of joy and laughter to the room. One of the highlights was learning how to write their own names in Korean, an activity that sparked curiosity and excitement among the students. Many were thrilled to see their names written using the beautiful Korean alphabet.

The atmosphere became even more special when some students and members of the community wore traditional Korean clothing, adding color and authenticity to the celebration. Seeing these beautiful garments up close allowed everyone to appreciate the elegance and cultural meaning behind them.

Of course, no cultural celebration would be complete without food, and our Korean families prepared an amazing tasting experience for everyone. The degustation of traditional Korean dishes was truly delicious and introduced many students to new flavors they had never tried before. The food quickly became one of the most talked-about parts of the event.

More than anything, this celebration reminded us how special it is to be part of such an international school community. Moments like these allow us to learn from one another, appreciate different cultures, and create memories that stay with us for a long time.

It was a joyful and meaningful celebration that left smiles on many faces and warmth in everyone’s hearts. We are very grateful to our Korean parent community for sharing their traditions with us and making this day so memorable for all.
