Historic Center of Kraków
During our December trip, we had the wonderful opportunity to visit the beautiful city of Kraków. Even in winter, the historic center had a magical atmosphere, with its cobbled streets and festive lights creating a warm and welcoming feeling.
One of the highlights of our visit was Wawel Castle, which majestically overlooks the city from Wawel Hill. Once the residence of Polish kings, the castle is a symbol of Poland’s rich history and offers stunning views of the Vistula River.
We also spent time in the lively Main Market Square (Rynek Główny), one of the largest medieval squares in Europe. During our visit, the square was beautifully decorated for the Kraków Christmas Market. Wooden stalls offered traditional food, handmade crafts, and festive decorations, making the whole place feel cheerful and full of holiday spirit.
Dominating Rynek Główny is St. Mary’s Basilica, a striking Gothic church known for its two uneven towers and magnificent wooden altarpiece. Right in the center of the square stands the historic Cloth Hall, once a major trade hub and today home to souvenir stalls and small shops.
Another important place we visited was the Jagiellonian University, one of the oldest universities in Europe. Founded in 1364, it has educated many important figures and remains a symbol of Kraków’s long academic tradition.
Our visit to Kraków was truly unforgettable — a perfect combination of history, culture, and festive winter spirit.
