Hospodárske Noviny Visit – Newspaper Club

On the 11th of November, we visited Hospodárske Noviny, a newspaper publishing company. The trip’s main purpose was to deepen our understanding of the real experiences in publishing industries. During the visit, we learned many things about the company itself, as well as the processes behind producing their newspapers, magazines, and podcasts. Hospodárske Noviny is part of Mafra Slovakia, one of the biggest media groups and publishing houses. The newspaper has been in business for over 30 years, with the chief editor having worked there for 12 years. Currently, there are around 65 editors working at the company. During our visit, we had a great opportunity to look around several of their existing departments, including the editing team, the producers, the marketing department, and the podcast production team. In the podcast department, we learned a lot about the technical aspects, such as how their cameras and sound equipment work, the use of visual effects, and the reasoning behind using television screens as backgrounds, where we eventually also got to see how it is during the production of the podcast as they were producing a podcast at that exact moment when we were visiting. The final part of our visit included a Q&A session with one of the editors and one of the marketers, where we asked them questions about how it exactly works as one of the employees of the publishing company. Later on, we were also shown how they produce the newspapers and how they edit them by using correct newspaper formats, as well as explaining the process of adding articles which were written by the journalists. Overall, we enjoyed the trip a lot and found it informative and interesting to learn all this information.
