Primary Exhibition Day: Experiencing Live Debates in Slovak Language Class
On Primary Exhibition Day, our Year 6 students had the unique opportunity to experience the excitement and challenge of a live debate. As part of the unit “Who we are,”this project, titled “Collaborate for a Better World,” was designed to teach students the importance of teamwork, structured discussion, and the power of debate as tools to address real-world issues.
The students engaged in thoughtful discussions on various global and local challenges, reflecting on the issues they explored throughout the project. Through the process of presenting and defending their ideas, students developed essential skills in teamwork and critical thinking, while also learning to view issues from multiple perspectives.
The key inquiries guiding this project included examining the role of teamwork in problem-solving, discussing and debating critical global issues, and identifying significant themes that prompt action. Students worked in groups, crafting arguments and proposing solutions, before presenting their conclusions to classmates, teachers, and parents during the exhibition.
I hope it was a powerful experience for our young learners, one that strengthened their communication skills and inspired a commitment to becoming active contributors to their communities and the wider world.
A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who attended and supported the event, making it an unforgettable experience for our young learners!
