Making Reflection Visible

We took our journals to the school gym and sat in front of the biggest mirror in the building — very intentionally.

We’ve been working on being reflective learners, so I wanted students to experience reflection as something concrete, not just a word we talk about. Seeing themselves helped make that connection.

The journal writing went really well. We’re now up to 10-minute writing blocks and still building stamina, and students enjoyed it so much they asked to stay longer.

It was also a good reminder that learning doesn’t have to stay inside the classroom. Exploring different spaces in the school can bring fresh energy and deeper thinking.

When I was 8 years old one of my favorite things to do was to visit the market with my grandmother and eat a warm garlicky langoš. Little did I know at that time that it would be another 32 years until I would be at the same place, reminiscing about the beautiful memories of my grandmother while eating this delicacy. I call it the langoš 360. A 360 turn of living, studying and teaching around the world.
