Year 9 Explores How Media Shapes Our Perspective
This week, our Year 9 students had the opportunity to take part in an engaging session led by Pedro, a volunteer from INEX Slovakia, who introduced them to the topic of media bias and the impact it has on the way we interpret news.

Throughout the workshop, students examined how news stories—whether from reputable or alternative outlets—can be influenced by choices in language, structure, or visuals. Pedro encouraged students to think critically about the information they encounter and to consider how different forms of bias might subtly guide public opinion.

The hands-on activities sparked lively discussions. Students compared varied headline styles to see how a small shift in tone can change the message entirely. They also analyzed contrasting photographs and layouts to understand how imagery can manipulate the emotional response of the audience.

By the end of the session, students had sharpened their ability to question sources, identify hidden biases, and approach media with a more informed and thoughtful mindset. Rather than fostering distrust, the workshop empowered them to become more aware and discerning consumers of information.
