A Spotlight on Arthur Borovský’s MYP4 Summative
At EISB , we are constantly impressed by how our students tackle the world’s most pressing and complex issues. Today, we want to give a special shout-out to Arthur Borovský (MYP4) for his exceptional summative project for Individuals and Societies Unit 3 .
Arthur’s presentation, titled “Power, Inequality, and Influence Created by Oil,” is a masterclass in critical thinking and global awareness. Rather than simply viewing oil as a resource, Arthur delved into the socio-political structures that petroleum has built over the last century.
In his research, Arthur explored how a century of decisions by powerful leaders and corporations has not only fueled our daily lives but has also created significant gaps between the wealthy and the marginalized. He highlighted how oil is often used as a political weapon, notably citing the 1973/74 oil embargo and how the pursuit of this “black gold” has shaped the modern world’s power dynamics.
What made Arthur’s work truly stand out was his ability to connect historical events to current environmental and economic consequences. He moved beyond facts and figures to discuss the ethical responsibility for addressing the pollution and inequality this industry has left in its wake. It is this kind of inquiring leadership and ability to synthesize complex global interactions that we strive to foster in every student at EISB.
We highly encourage our community to take a moment and explore Arthur’s hard work. His presentation is not only informative but also a reminder of the vital role our young people play in understanding and reshaping the world’s future.
