Poetry in Action: Creative Learning at Bibiana

During our visit to Bibiana, Year 5 students did not only observe art — they actively engaged with it through poetry-based activities connected to our Unit of Inquiry.

Students selected artworks that resonated with them and responded using guided prompts. These sensory reflections helped them transform visual inspiration into poetic language. By focusing on emotions and perspective, they practiced key communication and thinking skills central to the IB approach.

Working independently, students drafted short poetic responses directly within the gallery space. This authentic setting encouraged deeper reflection and strengthened their ability to interpret meaning, consider audience, and express personal voice.

The experience highlighted the power of interdisciplinary learning where art, language, and inquiry come together. Through observation, reflection, and creative expression, our students demonstrated that poetry is not confined to textbooks, but lives in the world around us.
