Year 8 Slovak for Foreigners: Exploring Daily Routines Through Creative Posters

Our Year 8 Slovak for Foreigners students recently completed an engaging project focused on describing daily routines during both weekdays and the weekend. To bring their ideas to life, each student created a colourful poster illustrating how their days typically unfold.

During the project, students practiced telling time in Slovak—an essential skill for everyday communication. They also learned the names of various daily activities, from waking up and going to school to enjoying hobbies or relaxing during the weekend. One interesting challenge they encountered was the difference in logic when telling time in Slovak. For example, half past five is expressed as „pol šiestej“, which literally means half six. Overcoming these subtleties helped them gain a deeper understanding of the language.

Designing the posters allowed students to organize their ideas visually while applying new vocabulary and grammar in context. The final results showcased both their creativity and growing confidence in expressing themselves in Slovak.

This project was a perfect mix of art, personal expression, and practical language learning—well done, Year 8!
