Year 3โ€™s Day of Emotions ๐Ÿ’ญ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’šโค๏ธ

On September 16, 2025, Year 3 had a very special lesson all about emotions โ€“ what they mean, how they affect us, and how we can regulate them. It was a day full of reflection, sharing, creativity, and kindness. ๐ŸŒŸ

We began the day by exploring different emotions and talking about what they feel like inside our bodies. Children had the chance to express how they were feeling and then tried to connect those feelings to a particular emotion. Some said they felt happy because of exciting morning play, others felt a bit tired, while a few admitted they felt nervous about trying something new. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Together, we discussed how emotions can affect our bodies. For example, when weโ€™re angry ๐Ÿ˜ , our heart might beat faster, or when we feel calm ๐Ÿ˜Œ, our body relaxes. We also talked about strategies for regulating emotions โ€“ such as deep breathing, counting to ten, or having some quiet time.

One very important part of the lesson was learning how to approach friends with big feelings. We explored ways of offering support, like giving them space, waiting until they calm down, or showing kindness when they are ready to talk. ๐Ÿ’•

During Art class we later moved into a creative activity. Each child traced the contour of their hands and used a variety of colors to represent different emotions. ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Each finger became a place to think about feelings such as happiness, sadness, excitement, anger, or calm. Children then reflected on an act of kindness they could perform towards a friend of their choice. Some chose to write how they might help a classmate in the classroom, showing how thoughtful and empathetic they are becoming.

The activity was a wonderful way to combine creativity with emotional learning โ€“ and the colorful hands looked beautiful when displayed! ๐ŸŒˆ

September 16thโ€™s lesson helped Year 3 realise that emotions are a natural and important part of who we are. By learning to identify them, understand how they affect us, and regulate them, children took a big step in building their emotional intelligence. Even more importantly, they showed how much they care for each other โ€“ proving that kindness and empathy make our classroom a safe and supportive community. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿค
