Introducing our new “Bye Bye Spot”

Mornings at preschool are full of excitement, but they can also bring a few challenges—especially when it comes to saying goodbye. Separation anxiety is a natural part of early childhood, and busy drop-offs can sometimes feel overwhelming for both children and parents. To help make this transition smoother, we are excited to introduce a new addition to our classroom: the Bye Bye Spot.

The Bye Bye Spot is a dedicated place near the entrance where families can take a moment to say goodbye before children start their day. By creating this special area, we hope to:

  • Support emotional well-being – Children benefit from a consistent goodbye routine, which helps them feel secure and ready for the day ahead.
  • Ease separation anxiety – A defined space for goodbyes gives children the chance to acknowledge their feelings and parents the opportunity to reassure them.
  • Keep the classroom calm and safe – Having goodbyes take place in one spot helps reduce congestion in the doorway and changing area, allowing the rest of the class to begin their activities smoothly.

Why Separation Anxiety Matters
It’s important to remember that separation anxiety is a healthy and expected stage of development for preschoolers. Many children experience strong emotions when leaving a parent or caregiver, especially in new or busy environments. While it can feel difficult in the moment, separation anxiety is a sign that children are forming secure attachments. With gentle routines and supportive strategies, most children quickly build the confidence to wave goodbye and dive into their day.

We’ve already seen that this small change makes a big difference. Children know exactly where their goodbye happens, parents have a clear routine, and teachers can focus on welcoming each child calmly.

The Bye Bye Spot is just one way we’re working to create a warm, supportive environment where children feel safe, independent, and ready to learn.
