Celebrating Our Upper Primary Library Project
At EISB, our upper primary group recently undertook an ambitious project to enhance our primary school library, and the results were nothing short of inspiring. Last week, the year 4, 5, and 6 students collaborated during project week to tackle a significant issue: the disorganization of our library. Students often expressed frustration about not being able to find the books they needed for their classes, and it was time for a change.
The week began with big dreams as students brainstormed creative and innovative ideas to improve our library. They set a project goal and divided into teams, each focusing on a specific aspect of the improvement process. One group researched new books based on student interests, while another diligently sorted and organized existing books. There was even a tech-savvy team developing a check-in and check-out system to streamline library usage.
Among the most imaginative groups were the Dreamers, who took our collective aspirations and researched ways to bring them to life. Their ideas included a vending machine for snacks, a TV for school announcements, and my personal favorite: speakers for playing relaxing jazz music in the hallway. The Decorators group worked hard to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, transforming the space for all students at EISB. If you walk down our hallway, you can truly feel the difference.
The final team, the Educators, focused on establishing library rules and teaching our lower primary students how to navigate the library effectively. Their efforts ensured that everyone would benefit from the improvements.
As the week flew by, it was heartening to see every student involved in this community effort. Our music, Spanish, German, English and Slovak teachers provided essential support and guidance, contributing to a successful collaborative environment.
Now, as I walk down the hallway, I am filled with pride for our students and the upper primary community. They followed the engineering design process and project-based learning framework to tackle our library’s challenges head-on.
I invite everyone to visit the primary school hallway this week to witness the positive changes our students have made. Their hard work and dedication have truly transformed our library, and I couldn’t be prouder of their achievements.
