Middle School Welcome Letter 2024/25

Dear Middle School Parents,

Welcome to the start of another exciting school year at the English International School of Bratislava. As Head of Middle School, it is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to both our returning families and those new to our Middle School community (Year 7/ MYP1,   Year 8/ MYP2,   Year 9/ MYP3).

What’s new this year?

● We believe that a strong partnership between home and school is essential to a successful middle school experience, and we are committed to working more closely with you this year to ensure that your child thrives. This is why we have introduced the “Parent At-Home Program”. Further information about this will be sent out to you (via EduPage) in the next couple of weeks.

● Middle School students will follow a STEM program involving integrated learning and integrated projects in their Science, Math, and Design classes.

● Students will partake in Service Learning trips. Service Learning Trips are a great opportunity to help others while learning important lessons about the world and themselves.

● There will be Middle School assemblies to recognize and celebrate our students’ work/projects, to build our community, to hear students’ ideas, and to promote school values and expectations.

● We have updated and formalized our Middle School policies to better serve our students and community. These policies are outlined in detail in the updated “Parent-Student Handbook,” which you are encouraged to review. One of the key updates is our new phone/ technology policy, which is designed to help students stay better focused and engaged during school hours.

● Please refrain from contacting your child during the school day. You can communicate with your child’s class teacher(s), the Head of Middle Middle School, and/or the Office and we will ensure the information is communicated to your child.

● Repeated serious disruptive behaviors or violations of school rules may now be recorded on students’ official report cards. We believe that clear expectations and consistent follow-through are crucial in helping our students develop responsibility and respect for others in/out of school.

Middle School Parent Meetings

In September there will be “Coffee Time” with your child’s Class Teachers for you to meet them and discuss further. Then at the start of October, once things are settled a bit, I will hold a meeting for all Middle School parents to answer any outstanding questions or concerns, etc (date/time to be decided). We are excited about the year ahead and look forward to working with you to support your child’s success.

Start of Year Camp Trip (Sept 9-11th)

Please also note that registration for the annual Academy Camp Trip is already open on EduPage. It is highly encouraged that all Middle School students attend the camp trip!
