Gabčíkovo trip
The Power of Water.
On Thursday 12th October 2023, 40 students and 4 teachers headed to Gabčíkovo to visit the hydroelectric power plant and the Dunajské Luhy nature area.
After watching an informative video in the new visitor centre of the dam, students were taken below with protective hard helmets to view the 8 impressive Kaplan turbines, which have been supplying electricity to approximately 8% of the Slovakian electricity grid since 1992.
Later on, after a short break at the Cafe Kompa, overlooking the old Danube and the Hungarian riverside, students enjoyed a short walk through beautiful woodlands to the fords and waterfalls, under the warm sunshine of the Indian summer.
