Middle School Camp 2026: Learning Beyond the Classroom
From 9–11 September, our Middle School students and teachers travelled to Tesáre for three days of outdoor activities, relaxation, teamwork, and community building. The camp gave everyone an opportunity to step away from the usual routines of the classroom and experience school life in a different environment.
While academic learning is an important part of school, the camp reminded us that some of the most valuable learning happens outside the classroom. Students had opportunities to work together, communicate, solve problems, take responsibility, and support one another. Just as importantly, they had time to relax, have fun, and build relationships with both their classmates and teachers.
Wednesday was a more relaxed start to the camp. Students had some free time to enjoy the surroundings, with some choosing to spend time at the lake while others went to the swimming pool. These quieter moments were an important part of the experience, allowing students to socialise, recharge, and simply enjoy being together outside the usual school environment.
Later that evening, rain changed our plans, but it gave us an opportunity to enjoy a movie together. It was a simple but enjoyable way to end the day and brought students and teachers together in a relaxed atmosphere.
Thursday brought a greater sense of adventure, with students taking part in a two-part hike. Everyone had the opportunity to take part in the first section, while those who were ready for a greater challenge continued on towards Macacia Skala, sometimes described as the “Everest of Slovakia.” The challenging route was rewarded with beautiful views and a strong sense of achievement.
The evening continued with one of the highlights of the camp: student skits and a campfire. Students had the chance to be creative, perform in front of their peers, and share plenty of laughter. Sitting together around the campfire provided another opportunity for students and teachers to connect and enjoy each other’s company.
Throughout the three days, it was often the moments between the organised activities that were most valuable. Walking together, sharing meals, relaxing by the lake, talking during free time, or simply sitting around the campfire allowed teachers to see different sides of their students. Away from lessons and assessments, students were able to show their personalities, interests, creativity, and leadership in ways that may not always be visible in the classroom.
The camp also strengthened our sense of community and belonging. Students had opportunities to interact with classmates they might not normally spend time with, while teachers were able to build stronger relationships with students in a more informal setting. These experiences reminded us that a strong school community is built not only through lessons, but also through shared experiences and the relationships we develop along the way.
On Friday, we packed up and returned to school, bringing three memorable days in Tesáre to an end. The Middle School Camp was a valuable opportunity to learn, relax, challenge ourselves, and, most importantly, enjoy being part of a community.
As we continue with the academic year, we can take the friendships, memories, and sense of togetherness from Tesáre back into the classroom.
