Year 5 Exploring the Outdoors

Spread the love

One of the highlights of our Primary Camp was the opportunity to spend time outdoors and explore the natural environment together. Our Year 5 students took part in a hike, giving them the chance to experience the surroundings beyond the camp and enjoy a change of pace from their usual school routine.

The hike was not only about reaching the destination. Along the way, students had to stay together, communicate with one another and support their classmates. Walking as a group encouraged them to be patient, attentive and aware of the people around them.

For some students, the hike was also an opportunity to challenge themselves physically and step a little outside their comfort zone. They encouraged one another along the way and celebrated the achievement of completing the route together.

Being outdoors also gave students a chance to observe their surroundings and appreciate the natural environment. Away from classrooms, screens and everyday routines, they were able to talk, explore and enjoy the experience together.

The hike connected naturally with our learning about place and belonging. Experiencing a new environment together helped students consider how places can influence our experiences and how shared experiences can bring a community closer together.

By the end of the hike, students had not only explored their surroundings but had also strengthened their relationships with their classmates. It was a simple experience, but an important reminder that some of our best learning happens when we step outside the classroom.
