Ready, Set, Play! Year 3 at the Gaming Museum..

🎮 From Playground Games to Pixels: Year 3 at the Gaming Museum..

What a day! 🎮🕹️

On 28th September, Year 3 packed their curiosity and headed to the Gaming Museum in Vienna as part of our PYP unit, The Games Children Play.

From the moment we arrived, there was so much to see and discover! But before jumping straight into the games, we first listened, looked and learned. The children heard about how games were created, how gaming technology developed, and what playing games looked like many years ago.

And then… it was time to explore! 😄

There were familiar faces everywhere — Mario, Pac-Man, SEGA, Ninja, Akira Yuki — and even older versions of Pokémon cards! You could hear the excitement as children spotted something they recognised: “Look! I know this one!” or “I have seen this before!”

But the real excitement came when the children were able to play the games themselves. Suddenly, the past was not just something we were talking about — we were experiencing it!

The children tried older games, figured out how to use different controls and shared their thoughts about how these games were different from the ones they play today. Some were surprised by the technology, while others quickly became very determined to master the games! 😄

There was curiosity, laughter, teamwork, discoveries and a little friendly competition throughout the visit.

It was lovely to watch the children make connections between the games of yesterday and the games of today, and realise that although the technology has changed, something important has stayed the same — people still love to play!

And, of course, our inquiry did not end when we left the museum. We came back with new ideas, stories to share and lots of questions to keep exploring.

Because sometimes the best part of a learning experience is not finding all the answers…

It is coming back with even more questions! 💭🎮
