How accurate are historical movies and games?
Historical movies and video games can make the past feel exciting and real, but they are not always completely accurate. Directors and game developers often change events, characters, or timelines to make stories more entertaining. Because of this, audiences should think critically about what is true and what is fictional.
In this project, students analyzed how accurately movies and video games represent history. One group focused on Napoleon and Assassin’s Creed Unity, exploring the French Revolution and Napoleon’s era. Another group examined The Patriot and Assassin’s Creed III, which are set during the American Revolution.
By comparing historical facts with fictional elements, students learned that movies and games can be both educational and entertaining.
