Learning About Interdependence in Our Communities πŸ˜οΈπŸ”„

Yesterday, our Grade 2 classroom turned into a hub of curiosity and connection as we joined an exciting online session with our guest speaker, Miss Gulzar Makani (IB PYP educator). The experience was both inspiring and thought-provoking, giving our young learners a chance to explore big ideas in a meaningful way.

As part of our journey under the theme How We Organise Ourselves, students have been inquiring into systems, roles, and interdependenceβ€”and this session truly brought these concepts to life. Through engaging explanations and relatable examples, Miss Gulzar helped students see that a system is made up of different parts working together, each with an important role to play.

From classrooms to communities, students began to recognise how everyone contributes in their own wayβ€”and how every role matters.

A highlight of the session was exploring interdependence. Students discovered how people, as well as elements in nature, rely on one another. When Gulzar introduced the idea of ecosystems, curiosity sparked across the screen! Learners were fascinated to understand how plants, animals, water, and sunlight are all connected. They quickly realised that if one part changes, it can impact the entire system.

Thought-provoking inquiry questions guided the discussion and encouraged deeper thinking:

  • What is a system?
  • Why do people depend on each other?
  • What happens when one part of a system changes?

Our students made meaningful connections to their own livesβ€”reflecting on their roles at home, in school, and within their communities.

The session was interactive, engaging, and full of rich conversations. It was wonderful to see students confidently sharing their ideas, asking questions, and building new understandings together.

We are proud of our young inquirers and excited to continue exploring how systems shape the world around usβ€”and how each of us plays an important part within them! 🌍✨
