A New Chapter Begins: American Football Comes to EISB

This fall, something special begins at the English International School of Bratislava.

For the first time in school history, EISB will field an American Football team, launching what we believe will become one of the most exciting new chapters in the life of our school.

But this story is about far more than football.

It is about who our students become.

More Than a Team

At EISB, we have always believed that education extends beyond the classroom. Through our Teaching Towards Tomorrow philosophy, students develop the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world: learning, thinking, reasoning, communicating, collaborating, and adapting.

Athletics provides another environment in which those same skills can be developed, tested, and refined.

A football field is not just a place where games are played.

It is a place where students learn to lead.

A place where they learn to communicate under pressure.

A place where they learn to overcome setbacks, support teammates, take responsibility, and pursue excellence together.

That is why EISB Athletics is built on a simple belief:

Athletics is education.

Every EISB athlete is a student first. Every EISB coach is an educator first. Athletic success is measured not only by wins and losses, but by student growth, leadership, character, and contribution to the school community.

Why American Football?

The launch of American Football as our founding sport is a deliberate choice.

American Football is one of the ultimate team sports. Success depends on preparation, communication, discipline, trust, and resilience. Every player has a role. Every action affects the team.

It is also a sport uniquely aligned with EISB’s Coaching for Character philosophy, which teaches that elite performance and strong character are not competing priorities—they develop together.

Our football program will compete against established clubs in Slovakia, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Hungary, giving students the opportunity to represent EISB while challenging themselves in meaningful competition.

No Experience Required

One of the most exciting aspects of this launch is that students do not need previous football experience to participate.

In fact, many of our founding players may be learning the game for the very first time.

What matters is not experience.

What matters is commitment.

Curiosity.

Effort.

The willingness to be part of something new.

We will teach the game.

Students will learn, grow, and develop together.

The Founding Team

Every school has traditions.

But someone has to start them.

This year’s team will always hold a special place in EISB history because they will be our first.

Years from now, when EISB Athletics has expanded into multiple sports and hundreds of students have worn school colors in competition, people will still remember who was there at the beginning.

The founding team is more than a roster.

It is the beginning of a culture that involves and impacts the entire EISB community.

The Birth of EISB Athletics

American Football is only the first step.

The long-term vision for EISB Athletics is ambitious: to create an environment where students can pursue athletic excellence alongside an internationally recognized education, developing both performance and character in equal measure.

Future sports, partnerships, events, and opportunities will grow from this foundation.

But every journey starts somewhere.
