Plastic Pollution: A Global Issue and Our Responsibility

Plastic pollution is one of the biggest global issues affecting our planet today. Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste end up in oceans, rivers, and natural environments. Because plastic takes hundreds of years to decompose, it causes long-term damage to ecosystems, wildlife, and human health.

This is a global problem because plastic waste doesn’t stay in one country. Ocean currents carry plastic across borders, impacting marine life and communities worldwide. Animals often mistake plastic for food, leading to injury or even death. Furthermore, tiny plastic particles known as microplastics have been found in drinking water and food.

As students, we can contribute to solving this issue through CAS. We can use our creativity to produce posters, videos, or social media campaigns to raise awareness about reducing plastic use. We can participate in activities such as clean-up campaigns or organize environmental projects at school. Service can involve educating others about recycling and sustainable habits.

Understanding global issues helps us recognize that local actions can also have a global impact. Young people can make meaningful contributions to environmental protection by reducing plastic use and encouraging sustainable behavior.
