The start to our club: How do I want to feel?
We are super excited as we begin meeting for our new club: How do I want to feel? Journaling and scrapbooking club! It’s been three weeks and we are enjoying it so much!
To start us off, students decorated their scrapbook, an important aspect of creating a journal that they will enjoy using and that will be their safe space to explore and express themselves.
We also painted our safe, most joyful place, and did an exercise inspired by the Cognitive-Behavioural approach, which focuses on the link between thoughts, feelings and behaviours. This is a building block to helping students develop the skill of reflection and learn to regulate their own thoughts and feelings as they come.
During the rest of the year, we plan to continue exploring how to process our emotions through journaling exercises, conversation, stories, and somatic exercises. Most importantly, it will be through the enjoyable form of art, crafts, and scrapbooking, and through developing safe relationships with our students, so they know they always have people to turn to in times of difficulty.
