Learning Through Collective Games: Self-Awareness in PE

Spread the love

As part of our Month of Self-Awareness 🌟, our students have been exploring how physical education can help them understand themselves and others through collective games 🏈 ⚽️

In today’s world, being active is not only about individual fitness. Communication, collaboration, decision-making, respect and self-awareness are essential skills that students can develop through participation in team sports.

During PE lessons, students have taken part in games such as flag football and soccer, using the excellent facilities at the ŠK Slovan Bratislava field. A big thank you to ŠK Slovan Bratislava for giving our students the opportunity to enjoy such a fantastic sporting environment.

Through the IB programme 🧩, students are encouraged to become active, reflective and open-minded learners. Collective games provide a natural environment for developing these qualities. Students have to communicate with teammates, listen to different ideas, make decisions under pressure, adapt to changing situations and take responsibility for their actions.

While playing, students also have opportunities to discover more about themselves:

  • What are my strengths?
  • How do I react when things do not go my way?
  • How do I communicate with others?
  • What role do I naturally take in a team?
  • How can I support my teammates?
  • What can I improve?

The focus is not simply on winning or losing. Instead, students are learning to play together, reflect on their experiences and understand how their individual actions contribute to the success of the group 💪🏽.

Collective games therefore become more than just sport. They are a practical way for students to develop IB Approaches to Learning skills, build positive relationships and become more aware of themselves as members of a community.

Play together 🤸🏾‍♂️. Learn together 🧩. Grow together 🎯.
