The Colourful World of Frutas y Verduras

Spread the love

This month, our 4th-grade students have been exploring healthy food and healthy choices as part of their PYP learning. In Spanish, we focused on one important part of a healthy lifestyle: fruits and vegetables!
Our learning started with learning the names of different fruits and vegetables and continued with a hands-on observation activity. Students had the opportunity to carefully observe different fruits and vegetables and describe their size, color, shape, texture, and smell. They also learned how to describe whether something was hard or soft, using their new Spanish vocabulary.
Next, students created their own favorite fruit and vegetable plates using paper plates. They practiced expressing their preferences in Spanish, and had the opportunity to be creative with their designs.
To wrap up the activity, students presented their creations to the class, using Spanish to talk about their favorite fruits and vegetables.
Through these activities, students practiced new Spanish vocabulary while also observing, communicating, making connections, and thinking about healthy food choices.
It was a hands-on way for students to connect their Spanish learning with the PYP theme of healthy lifestyles. Learning a new language is even more meaningful when students can connect it to the world around them :))).
