Exploring Communities and Values: Year 5’s Journey with ‘Wonder’
Dear Parents and Community Members,
I am thrilled to share a highlight from Year 5’s recent inquiry into the concept of communities. This term, our students have been deeply engaged in exploring what makes a community and the various communities they are part of.
In addition to their exploration of communities, Year 5 has also been investigating friendships and values through their reading of “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio. This powerful story has sparked meaningful conversations about empathy, kindness, and the importance of accepting differences among us.
Through thoughtful discussions and activities, students have identified different types of communities they know and belong to. It’s been inspiring to witness their growing understanding of the importance of community and their commitment to making positive contributions.
One of the most exciting outcomes of this inquiry is their eagerness to think about how they can improve our school community for everyone involved. Their ideas and enthusiasm reflect a deep sense of responsibility and care for their peers and surroundings.
We are proud of our students’ efforts and look forward to seeing how they will continue to engage with and enhance our community. Thank you for your ongoing support!
Warm regards,
Miss Ivy Dalley
