WeGoDetermined
Through CAS, Luke from Y12 wanted to create a group to be able to do good for others, not only through the last years of DP, but also after finshing school!. Together with his classmates Randy, Yan, Emily and Rouzhin, they managed to create the group “WeGoDetermined”. Through the week of 20th of October, they had four days of a bake sale to collect some funding to start their charity group. Here is a message from them:
220 euros. That’s 220 euros that my team and I made throughout last week with our bake sale. And what is this money for? Well, I’m glad you asked. With the money we made, we will be feeding 200 people from across Bratislava. Targeting mainly the homeless, elderly, and people in need. So why did a team of young people decide to do this? We have decided that it is time to give back. In this era, most people only think about themselves. They are selfish and judgmental. We need more empathy. Think about that for a second.
Here’s an example: When you are in a car lane, and someone wants to swoop past you, what would you do? Slow down and let the car in front of you, or pull your car up so they can’t get in. Most people would pull their car up. What’s unsettling about this is that we do not know what that other person is going through. Maybe they have an emergency. Maybe they need to rush and drop off their kids to school, maybe they have an important job interview. And the “funny thing” is that if you were in the same situation, you would expect empathy from the other person to let you in. If you do let them in front of you, and it doesn’t affect your day in any important way, you might have even saved someone’s life! And you’d be one car length away from your destination.
So this is why we are feeding 200 people. To bring awareness to the fact that we have to start giving!
When will you start?
