Another voluntary activity for 12th grade students

The article was written by Emre, a 12th Year student. The presentation was made by Ester and Emre, the 12th Year students.

This Thursday, my classmates Adela, Anna, Alexandra, Emily, Ester, Radovan, Randy, Yan, Rouzhin, Veronika, Sviatoslav, Pan and I participated in the 30th year of the Deň Narcisov charity gathering. This is a yearly event that has been happening since 1997 where the non-profit League Against Cancer (in Slovak: Liga Proti Rakovine) and its partners and volunteers give out daffodil pins and collect donations to support oncology patients and their families. This gathering helps pay for things such as psychologists for patients, one time donations to patients who are struggling financially, short term housing for patients among many other services. This year I registered our school as a partner institution and we were able to have a gathering at our table in the lobby and later by walking around collecting donations in different parts of the city.

Before the event we sent out messages on Edupage and put up posters around the school about the event and how people could contribute. The school community was very generous and contributed much to the final count of the money collected. People in our school donated so much and were so active in our collection that we nearly ran out of flowers to give out before we even left the school. We would like to thank everybody who donated and the school for letting us organize this gathering.

At the end of our school day we cleaned up our stand and organized ourselves in the lobby so we could split into groups and head into the city. The first group which Emily was in charge of was collecting at the Nivy rooftop. The second group which I was in charge of walked around the Kapucínska tram stop, Župné Námestie and entrance to the Old Town and not far from us near the SNP Bridge and next to the Danube was the third group which Adela was in charge of. Ester was in charge of the last group who walked around Sad Janka Kráľa. We walked around from 2 PM to 6 PM and by the end all of us together had given away somewhere between 700 and 800 flowers.

The final count of money collected in our boxes counted by the League Against Cancer was 1452 euros and 65 cents and all of us are very grateful for the experience.
