A Delightful Change

As we approach the end of May here at the English International School of Bratislava, the city begins to embrace a remarkable transformation. For many of our international students, teachers, and parents, adjusting to the extended daylight hours can be both surprising and delightful.

Bratislava, with its geographical position in Central Europe, offers an impressive shift in daylight that marks a distinctive feature of our seasonal experience. During this time of year, the day starts early, with the first light of dawn breaking around 5:00 am. As the day progresses, the sunlight continues to shine well into the evening, with dusk not settling in until 9:00 pm or even later.

This significant increase in daylight is a stark contrast for many of our community members who come from regions closer to the equator or from places where seasonal changes are less pronounced. In those parts of the world, the length of day and night remains relatively constant throughout the year.

Its fascinating that Bratislava offers the opportunity to experience the full spectrum of seasonal variation!

The extended daylight hours are due to the tilt of the Earth’s axis. As we approach the summer solstice, the Northern Hemisphere is tilted towards the sun, resulting in longer days and shorter nights. This phenomenon is most noticeable in higher latitudes, and Bratislava is perfectly situated to showcase this natural wonder.

We hope everyone at the English International School of Bratislava enjoys this wonderful season and makes the most of the brilliant, extended days. Here’s to a bright and exciting end of the school year!
