Is Chat GPT gaslighting me about Tarzan?
“Tell me the story about Mando again.”
“There seems to be some confusion.”
“You told me Mando was Tarzan’s real name. Please tell me the story of Mando in the Gabonese jungle again.”
“This is not accurate. Tarzan’s real name is John Clayton, Viscount Greystoke”
“Why did you tell me Tarzan’s real name was Mando?”
“There seems to be some confusion.”
During my research into African tales, I asked chat gpt for a summary of a story that’s made itself into popular culture time and time again – Tarzan. I was surprised to see that it called him “Mando” instead. The story had a few variations of the plot that I was used to hearing as a kid, so I made the reasonable assumption that this must be the original and that more recent adaptations had been changed slightly.
When I returned to chat gpt for this blog, the app did the programme equivalent of “Nu nmbr, hoo dis?”
Technology is amazing, but it can really leave you scratching your head sometimes!
Nevertheless, it was not the only African tale we learnt about. We also took a look at another story based on a real elephant in Sudan… Dumbo!
The lesson we learned is that you can achieve anything if you believe, and being unique makes you truly special. How sweet 🙂
